Rodeo Relocating From Las Vegas

After nearly three decades, the NFR will be relocated for Florida with a new arena. At least they can change their minds after 10 years if it doesn’t work out. Hopefully, they won’t have lost their following by making the move to Osceola County. I’m sure many diehard Vegas fans appreciated having the NFR on their home turf along with the Professional Bull Riders at the end of the year. Feels a little like having one twin taken away from the other and placed in a new home if you ask me.

(Las Vegas, NV)  —  The National Finals Rodeo is heading for its last roundup in Sin City. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association has voted to move the event to Florida’s Osceola County near Orlando, starting in 2015.

A spokesman for the PRCA says Osceola County’s presentation promised more financial incentives and a new arena. The 20-year agreement has an option to bow out after ten years.

Las Vegas Events chairman Pat Christenson called the move “a big mistake.” NFR has called Las Vegas home for nearly three decades.

The National Finals Rodeo helps feed the Las Vegas economy during a traditionally slow time for the resorts. Jeremy Aguero, principal analyst with Applied Analysis, says he doesn’t expect it to go quietly.
